Thanks for your comments. Todd, I look forward to meeting with you after I read your book. Pablo, you are spot on. Although open innovation is conceptually appealing to people, it is often hard for them to completely grasp. As you point out, not only does a large network help provide a diverse set of solvers, but it gives organizations access to a fresh set of eyes. Thanks again. Steve

I think it´s an excellent analogy, but it is also clear that it could take some time for some ppl to understand the concept, some see it first, some later, things can be done in many different ways and that is not a crime, “outsiders” have a different perspective, they can see things that the “natives” don´t see sometimes.

We’ve been able to practice the technique that you’ve described within our corporation (EMC). We’re a high-tech company that has made nearly 40 acquisitions in the last decade, we have also acquired an army of “experts”, such as encryption technologies (RSA Corp) and most recently Data Domain (deduplication technology). The “lifeline” strategy in our environment is to pose the question to internal experts using a united social media platform.
